February 14-15, 2009

Wow, another phenomenal weekend for the club. We ended with 4 championships and a host of near misses.

Lets start with the flagship team!

18 Diamond flew to Las Vegas to play in the classic. 164 teams in our divsion. Coming in seeded 123rd of 164 the 18 Diamond went undefeated on day 1 and immediately moved up 88 spots to capture the 35 seed. Playing against primarily california teams the 18 Diamond won the first two matches of the day in dramatic fashion but were not able to capture the #1seed falling to Challengers from California and fell again in our challenge match to go to gold in 3 to club Imua From hawaii. The 18 Diamond landed in the highest Silver bracket and defeated Norcal from California but fell in the semi finals of the silver to Austin Juniors. They finished tied for 19th out of 164.

18 Orange had break out performances from several players as they WON THE SILVER DIVSION. Rose Corneille captured a scholarship offer from Division I Alabama State Univ and 3 other players were all being scouted because of their remarkable academics. Kaitlin MaGill, Nimat Lawal, and Lissie Terry. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP LADIES

17 DIAMOND Went undefeated on day one and were one of only two that did go undefeated in the entire 17's tournament. Well Done. They headed into the playoffs early sunday morn and came out with a win but fell in the Semi finals of the Gold Division. This was a very strong field of teams and they finish tied for 3rd. Told you they were out for blood. View the 17 Diamond Game Recap and Video Highlights for more details!

17 Orange went without Head Coach Latressa Cunningham ( who is curretly training and one of 3 Atlanta Boomers heading to the U.S. NATIONAL TEAM TRYOUTS this coming weekend) but rose to the task and CAPTURED THE SILVER DIVISION VICTORY. Moving from Middle to Outside Z-Vincent put up a stellar performance to help the team capture it's first tournament win of the year and the clubs 5th tournament victory so far this year and we are only in February.

16 Diamond had several injured players and tow who were not even able to attend the tournament. They had a very tough tournament after coming in seeded 4th, but all teams must endure injuries from time to time. The 16 Diamond will be at full strength in Huntsville at the NASA big spring bash on the 28th. Good Luck 16 Diamond

16 Orange did make it to the silver division but were not quite able to overcome the first round of playoffs. On a humorous note. the 16 White who were having trouble with cell phones were having them collected by the coaches at night. Well this mischievious bunch decided to set their alarms for 2:45 AM (that's right almost 3 in the morning) The coach (Makeda) was unable to turn them off and had coach Gurre com to her hotel room to disable all of the menacing machines. The coach was never able to go back to sleep. OOOOO, I would not want to be at their next practice. I am sure that they will have some splainin to do.

15 Orange WON THE GOLD DIVISION OUTRIGHT. This group of mostly new players have been flirting with the playoffs all year having been to the quarters, semi's and finals all before finally capturing victory this weekend at a pretty big tournament. This team is on pace to do some pretty great things. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PARENTS PLAYERS AND COACHES OF THE 15 ORANGE FOR THEIR TOURNAMENT VICTORY.

15 White continues to impress as they also made it into the gold round after defeating Tsunami and almost had to face off against our own 15 Orange team again in the semi final but fell just short in the quarter final. Keep it up Coach Sandi.

14 Orange who also defeated tsunami earlier made it to the quarter finals of the gold division. This team has also been flirting with victory as they have been into the playoffs in every tournament save one. Well Done ladies

13 orange in their 2nd tournament out took down A5 in the finals of the silver division to capture its very first tournament victory. Things certainly are going right for the club as we are winning all across the board.

Coming Up This Weekend

We have 3 teams playing the 17 Diamond (chattanooga) the 15 White(chattanooga) and the 18 Diamond up at Suwanee...
